plastering

Apethorpe Hall

We've been involved with the ongoing restoration and conservation of Apethorpe Hall on behalf of English Heritage, Messenger Construction and most recently William Anelay Ltd.

This high status historical building has seen many types of plastering styles and techniques in its lifetime.  We've carried out the most basic repair work throughout the property using traditional materials such as; lime lath, reed and lime plasters to variety of backgrounds.

We have also been very fortunate to be involved with the running and repair of some of the finest in-situ decorative plasterwork in the country, in fact we are presently in the process of setting out the reproduction of the fibrous plaster panel work.

Having painstakingly re-cast the fibrous plaster panel’s to the Kings bedroom at Apethorpe Hall, fixing all 90 of them and spending many days mitering and applying the finishing touches, R D allsop Plastering finally completed this task to the highest standards possible on behalf of William Anelay Ltd, working with English Heritage. This room, although not as old in plastering styles was one of the most testing and inticate plastering projects we have been involved with to date.

The challenge does not stop there. R D Allsop Plastering has commenced work on the White Staircase. Which is a mix of hand modeled and cast enrichments set in this breath-taking stairway producing a spectacular floral design that tumbles from the highly decorative ceiling to the formal ground floor entrance. This truly is one of the most beautiful hand modeled examples you could wish to be involved with and I would consider the decorative hand modeling work to be of the finest standard in our built heritage.
